Which files can I cast?
Apple TV is fussy about containers by design, and a Windows PC full of MKV files is exactly the case it was not built for. AIX Player handles it by decoding first, so MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, TS, M2TS and WebM all reach the box the same way.
How does it connect to your Apple TV?

Will my subtitles show on the TV?
An Apple TV has no route to a subtitle file stored on a Windows PC. Even subtitle tracks inside the file depend on the box supporting that particular kind.
AIX Player renders them into the picture before it leaves the PC, so the Apple TV displays the text as part of the image and the question of support never arises.
What if my TV refuses the file?
Apple TV supports a limited set of media formats. AIX Player checks what it can take, then converts unsupported parts while the video streams. Supported Intel, AMD and NVIDIA graphics hardware can accelerate video conversion; on Qualcomm, only H.264 encoding is hardware-assisted, and other stages use the processor.

Can I cast from a Windows PC to an Apple TV?

Why is my Apple TV not appearing?
Wake it, and check the network. A sleeping box may miss the first scan. It also has to be on the same network as your PC — a guest network hides it entirely.
Do subtitles work when casting to Apple TV?
Yes, including external files. They are rendered into the picture before it leaves your PC, so they arrive on screen whatever the box supports.
Can I keep using the PC while it plays?
Yes. Nothing is captured from your display, so the machine is free for anything else. Keep it awake, though — sleep stops the stream.
